Day 326, Year 6: Newport Boat Show
Date: Thursday, September 15, 2011
Weather: Partly Sunny, Warm, and Windy
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts
The gods were with us today. The weather front that was supposed to bring thunderstorms to Newport didn’t arrive, so we had good weather. Due to the graciousness of good friend Larry Beavers, I didn’t have to pay to get into the show. He had a free ticket for me. (It was great meeting up with you Larry, and thanks so much for the ticket.) He also had a ticket for Mark, but Mark had volunteered to man the SSCA (Seven Seas Cruising Association) booth for a couple of hours and that got him in free as an exhibitor. Jonah’s cold was much better today and both boys were fantastic for the whole twelve hours we had them. And our good friends Alan and Helaine Kanegsberg met us at the boat show and helped throughout the day with the boys. Helping two little ones get on and off of boats is much easier with four people than it is with two and sharing the pushing of a stroller with two boys in it was a life saver for me. It was a great day, thanks to the weather, good friends, and two grandchildren who were terrific. We delivered Sam and Jonah home almost exactly twelve hours after we left this morning and then we returned to Woods Hole. We no sooner pulled into the parking lot until the rain drops started to fall. We are now sitting inside Windbird listening to the wind howling outside. I guess the front has arrived and we are getting blown about a bit. By morning it should pass and if the weather predictions are correct, it will be a good ten to fifteen degrees cooler for the next few days. I guess I can’t complain since we were given the gift of good weather today, but I’m not looking forward to daytime temps in the low 60’s and nighttime temps in the 40’s. Let’s hope I misread the weather information!
