Day 286, Year 6 Relaxed Day, Delightful Evening
Date: Saturday, August 6, 2011
Weather: Heavy Rain Overnight, Partly Sunny Day
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Today was so relaxed even though it was a busy day. I took Mark to work at 9 am, went to the grocery store, drove to the UPS Store to send last year’s Christmas gift to Justin and Jo (an African mask we brought back from South Africa), and then I returned to Windbird and spent the rest of the day preparing dinner and getting the boat ready for Heather, Jed, Sam, and Jonah to come have dinner and spend the night with us. Heather really wanted to go camping this weekend, but the weather report looked dreadful. Today was actually better than forecast, so hopefully the same will happen tomorrow. But because of the weather, Heather decided that she’d like to come to spend the night on Windbird instead of camping. It should be a bit drier if the forecasted thunderstorms materialize. I enjoyed my day as I didn’t have to rush. It seems like I have been in a hurry for months, so the relaxed pace today made work enjoyable. Mark got home from work at the same time that Heather and gang arrived and we then enjoyed dinner together. I made a pasta salad, grilled a marinated pork loin, and Heather brought fresh corn. It was a great summer meal even if the weather seemed more like fall. Then we went to shore to have ice cream. Somehow we got derailed by Sam when we passed the Candy Store, and he and Jonah decided they would rather have gummy worms (Sam) and gummy sharks (Jonah). So the little ones ate candy and the adults had ice cream. I was a bad Oma and let Sam and Jonah also have licks of my chocolate cone I think it added just a little too much sugar and now Heather and Jed are having a hard time getting the boys to sleep. But we did have fun walking through Woods Hole and playing chase on a grassy hillside in the dark.
Tonight it is supposed to rain, so we have put up all the side curtains in the cockpit. We took them down a couple of weeks ago to do sewing repairs, but then the machine didn’t cooperate and we still don’t have it repaired. And we’re not sure how soon that is going to happen. But Mark did make a few repairs with the “not working so great” machine” and by putting the side curtains back up we can be semi-dry when it rains until the final canvas repairs are done. Yesterday West Marine started their “end of summer” sale and the past couple of nights we have been smelling wood burning in a fireplace. Add to that geese that are flying south. We checked the calendar and it does say it is early August, but somehow here on Cape Cod it feels like fall is just around the corner. Scary!
