Day 268, Year 6 Making the Plunge
Date: Tuesday, July 19, 2011
Weather: Warmer Weather, Upper 80’s and Sunny
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts
I’m not sure if we just dove in or got sucked in, but which ever, we made the plunge and bought one of those phones today that can do everything except cook for you. We have searched and searched since arriving and have found that if we want to have internet here on the boat we needed to purchase a cell phone with tethering capability. “Tethering” just means that the phone is a wireless hotspot and computers in range that have our password can get onto the internet as long as our phone is turned on. We went with an AT&T Android that cost about $100 for the phone and then another $80 per month for the span of the two-year contract for the long-distance, texting, and internet service. We will still have the AT&T phone we bought in Puerto Rico that is on the “pay-as-you-go” system, but we’ll only use that one if we need to call each other. We loved being able to have a phone with out a long-term contract, but it was costing us as much per month as the new phone without any internet access. In addition, this new system should once again allow us to use Skype with video so we can talk to and see Justin, Jo, and Ziggy once they return home from England. They fly into Boston next Wednesday and spend five days here in Massachusetts before heading back to New Mexico. We are really looking forward to their visit.
We heard from our friends Neil and Ley today of Crystal Blues that we met while we were both having our boats painted in the Boat Lagoon in Thailand. Ley mentioned that she is looking forward to some photos with daily log and that reminded me once again of just how far behind I am in getting photos edited, named, and posted. No matter where I spend my mornings, here on Windbird or at Heather and Jed’s, I seem to find house cleaning/organizing jobs that really need to be done and I don’t get the photos or any writing done. I am promising myself that tomorrow morning I will dedicate the whole morning to photos. So Ley, by Thursday afternoon you should see some photos.
