Year 3: Day Trip to Las Vegas, New Mexico
Date: Sunday, April 27, 2008
Weather in New Mexico: Warm Days, Cool Nights, and Lots of Wind
Location: Los Cerrillos, New Mexico
We spent a good deal of the morning looking for George, one of Justin and Jo’s three cats. He didn’t come in for breakfast this morning and there seems to be no sign of him anywhere. Jo was very sad, but we decided to go ahead and go to Las Vegas as planned and continue the search when we returned.
Las Vegas is a small town to the east of Santa Fe. The hour or so car ride from Santa Fe to Las Vegas took us through a totally different kind of country. Santa Fe sits at 7,000 feet above sea level and the area to the east is mountains covered with tall pines. The reason for going to Las Vegas was to visit the natural hot springs there. We arrived in town, had lunch, and then went in search of the springs. The springs were on a hillside above a mountain stream right beside the road. There
were three levels-hot, hotter, and boiling! Mark and I enjoyed the hot and hotter levels, but I just couldn’t make ourselves jump into the top level. Justin and Jo made the plunge, but they had to admit that it was too hot for comfort. So they got out and ran down to the stream to cool off. That was a little too cool, so we all agreed that the middle level was just right.
George was still not at home when returned. Tomorrow will be a concerted day of searching, but Jo feels that since he has not returned that something has happened to him. There are coyotes here, so that is one possibility. We still have George’s brother, Budda, and Princess Zia, their female cat, and those two are now being kept inside at night.
