Day 95, Year 8: Day Trip to Beaufort
Date: Wednesday, February 6, 2013
Weather: Beautiful Day, High Temp in the 60’s
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

The sky was as blue as a sky can be today. It was beautiful day for our day trip north to Beaufort to meet up with sailing friends we first met in South Africa. Chris and Geoff have had their sailboat, Shambala, on land at Bock Marine on the Intracoastal Waterway. Shambala hails from Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia, but she hasn’t been home for eight years. Chris and Geoff move slowly as they soak in every bit of every country/continent they visit. When we met them in South Africa, they had been there for three years. And now they will be using the US as a base for their travels for at least another year. It was so wonderful to see them and catch up on all that has happened since we parted in Richards Bay in December of 2010. We had lunch in a great little waterfront restaurant in Beaufort and sat there talking for three hours. We then visited Scuttlebutt, a great little nautical gift and book store on the main street in Beaufort. It took us about three and a half hours to drive up and another three and a half to drive home, but it was worth every minute of the drive.

We are now home and scrambling to get packed for our trip to Florida. We just three everything into the suitcase, but when we weighed it, it was 10 pounds over the 40 pound limit. So now Mark is pulling some things out and putting them in our back packs. Then we’ll be set to go. We get up at 5:30 am and will be in Fort Lauderdale by 10 am. Florida, here we come.
