2018 Life Logs, Day 261—Stormy Day
Date: Tuesday, September 18, 2018
Weather: Overcast with Rain; 76, Low 63 F
Location: At Home in The Cottage, East Falmouth, MA

We finally got the remnants of Florence today, bringing heavy rains with threats of flooding. I only knew about the threat of flooding because my phone kept making the emergency alert sounds with the message of local flooding. I have never had that alert on my phone before and since I was off-Cape, I guess the alerts were for the area of Massachusetts where I was driving. But I am back home tonight and all has settled down. The rain has passed, and the north winds are bringing slightly cooler weather.

This morning I attended a meeting of the Newcomers Teacher Group. This group plans monthly field trips and today was the day to decide on field trips for the following year. Ideas are brought forward, a voting system produces the top twelve choices, and then different people in the group volunteer to organize each of the trips. I volunteered to organize a December trip to the Rhode Island School of Design. I know nothing about it, but that makes it all the more fun. Last year I organized a trip to the Harvard Museums which I also knew nothing about. Learning about the destination and planning for the group was almost as much fun as going on the trip. After that meeting, I headed off-Cape to the Wrentham Outlets. This is about an hour’s drive north. I have lost enough weight that most of my clothes are just too big for me, so this was a trip to buy clothes. I searched locally yesterday with no luck, but I struck pay dirt today. I am traveling to New Hampshire on Thursday for a New Hampshire Public Radio reception and I desperately needed something to wear. I now have that despite having to drive through torrential rain. What a woman won’t do to look decent!
