In life, I tend to take many things in life literally . . . like, to me, Labor Day must mean that you should labor! And I am afraid that I have passed that quality on to my daughter. For Heather, Labor Day means that you need to labor all day getting all those summer projects completed so the family can start the school year with a clean slate. My role in today’s labor was to take Sam to get a haircut, take Ollie to buy a pair of sneakers (twice), and to make rose hip marmalade with the rose hips Jonah picked last week. I’m not sure that everything on Heather’s To Do list was completed, but I do know their house looks great inside and out, all three boys have a new desk for the up-coming school year, and all three boys look and feel prepared for the school year. I also delivered the canned marina sauce to the Goldstones. This is a winter staple for them and I enjoy making it for them. So I call those labors a success. Happy Labor Day!

Sam’s cold is getting a bit better, but it is still unclear whether he will be able to go to school tomorrow. This evening I stayed with Sam while the rest of the family went to a neighborhood end-of-summer get together. I know how much Sam loves steak, so I bought a grass-fed beef tenderloin for him. He fired up the grill and cooked his own steak with my direction and he thought it was the best steak he has ever had. We sat on the back deck and had dinner together and really enjoyed our special time with each other. I might be spending my day with him tomorrow if he is not able to go to the first day of school. I’ve made it clear that I am on call, but I so hope he is better and can go to school. He is ready. Jed got Sam’s new folding desk installed. It can be down during the week and then folded up on the wall for the weekends. Unfortunately, Heather also seems to be coming down with a cold. Sure hope the rest of us can fight this off.
