2017 Life Logs, Day 231: Glorious Weather, Glorious Day
Date: Saturday, August 19, 2017
Weather: Sunny; High 84, Low 67 degrees F
Location: At Home in The Studio, Falmouth, MA

The weather today was just glorious, and although I did nothing ‘special’, I had a glorious day doing ordinary things—going to the gym, picking tiny tomatoes at Heather’s and roasting and freezing those, canning marinara sauce using locally grown organic tomatoes and garlic, doing laundry, and catching up with friends via Facebook or their websites. I borrowed the local paper from Heather and Jed’s and actually took time to read a newspaper for the first time in months. And I’m looking forward to another day like this tomorrow. I’m still deciding whether I will head down to the beach in the morning to watch the runners in the Falmouth Road Race cross the finish line. The Road Race runs right past The Studio and last year we watched from here to cheer Heather on for the last mile of the race. If I watch the race tomorrow, I’ll do it from the beach as I’m missing my beach time. Or I might skip the Road Race and go to a play in Woods Hole in the afternoon. Or I might just do nothing!

I really enjoyed catching up on where in the world all of my friends and family are right now. This started because I got an early morning Facebook message from Sam and Dawn on Windbird listing their 2017-2018 sailing destinations and asking sailing ‘buddies” to indicate their interest of when and where. I bid on Puerto Rico next March. That could be great fun and give me a chance to see Justin and family as well. Sam and Dawn will be arriving here in Quissett Harbor in just a couple of weeks. Dawn’s mother from South Dakota is doing the passage from the Chesapeake to here with them. Sam is trying to fit this trek in between flying assignments for September. So we have to hope for perfect weather. Next I checked in on my biking friends, Linda and Mike Stuart. In their quest to bike around the world, they have made it to Argentina and are about 500 miles north and a little west of Buenos Aires in the outback. Yesterday when they stopped at a little roadside store, the women knew who they were. She told them she had read about them in the newspaper. Linda and Mike had been interviewed but had no idea the article had been printed. Here’s the link to the article.http://www.resumendelaregion.com/recorren-mundo-bici-desde-tres-anos-llegaron-alta-grac/ The article is in Spanish, but you can probably get the gist or use an online translator to get it in English if you are interested. And just a couple of days ago they were in the town where Che Guevara grew up. They are biking through amazing history. Next, I checked in on Heather and Jon Turgeon aboard Evergreen. They were here just before Thanksgiving 2016 and then returned to Evergreen in Spain and have done a lot of touring in Europe. They are in Guadiana, Portugal, waiting for hurricane season to end so they can head across to the Caribbean. But they continue to balance sailing with touring on land to see some amazing sights. Most recently they enjoyed the macaques and tunnels at Gilbraltor. My niece Janet and her significant other, Monica, are also seeing some amazing sights as they tour Scotland and Ireland. A couple of days ago they were at St. Andrews in Scotland and today they traveled to see the castle where Game of Thrones was filmed. And I know they visited a few pubs in between! Heather, Jed, and boys have moved from the village by the sea to an apartment in the city of Goteborg where an annual cultural festival is happening. And then there is my son who lives in Puerto Rico. I saw a picture of him on Jo’s Facebook page jumping off the top of what looks like a very high waterfall. Wow! Friends and family all over the world. So, what am I doing here? Enjoying every moment of my little vacation at home.
